Genocide Prevention BC

Carmel Tanaka is the Founder and Executive Director of Genocide Prevention BC.

Genocide Prevention BC was a cross-cultural collective of 40+ BC representatives committed to the prevention of genocide and crimes against humanity through dialogue, education and broader community engagement. The group was active between 2018-2021, spending a full year attending each other’s commemorative ceremonies and was recognized as an unprecedented initiative linking BC communities that have suffered past and current harms. There still exists a Facebook Group for those who still wish to remain connected.

Carmel is a regular guest speaker in Genocide Studies 12, Holocaust, History and Social Studies classrooms at the elementary, high school and university levels across Canada.
